# Feature: Chat Title Management and Sorting
## The Problem
Venice currently auto-generates chat titles from the first few words of each prompt.
While this approach is functional and common across AI chat platforms, it lacks flexibility — **users cannot rename or reorganize their chats**.
This limitation frequently results in unclear, generic, or misleading chat titles, creating unnecessary friction and confusion.
As a consequence, users are often forced to:
- **Manually scroll through long conversation lists** to recall what each chat contained.
- *Inefficient once many chats accumulate or as time passes.*
- **Keep unrelated topics within the same chat** simply because they appear similar.
- *For instance, a discussion beginning with iPhone settings may shift to Android topics but remains under the same title.*
- **Spend excessive time deleting or merging chats** to maintain organization.
- *This drains productivity and adds friction to everyday use.*
- **Rely on competing platforms** (e.g., OpenAI ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot) for serious or ongoing projects.
- *This splits user attention and undermines Venice’s ecosystem.*
- **Accidentally delete valuable information** due to poor organization tools.
- *Compounding an already frustrating experience.*
## Proposed Solutions
- **Manual Title Editing**
Allow users to rename chats directly via:
- Long-press context menu, or
- “Edit title” icon/text area within the chat header.
- **Context-Aware Automatic Updates**
Enable Venice to dynamically revise chat titles when the conversation focus changes.
- *Example:* A discussion on *Xbox circuitry* that expands into *Xbox vs Sony hardware comparisons* could automatically rename itself to **“Console Hardware Comparison.”**
- Include a simple **on/off toggle** in user settings for those who prefer fixed titles.
## Bonus Enhancements
- **Chat Groups / Project Folders**
Organize related conversations under shared categories or projects for cleaner navigation.
- **Custom Title Colors**
Let users assign colors to chats or folders for quick visual identification.
- **Temporary Chats**
Create sessions that automatically delete after a set duration or upon logout, ideal for disposable queries.
- **Bulk Management Tools**
Support multi-select deletion or archival by group, color, or keyword match.
## Expected Impact
Implementing these features would substantially improve user workflow and satisfaction by enabling:
- Rapid recall of past conversations.
- Logical grouping of related discussions.
- Cleaner, context-specific dialogue organization.
- Faster, lower-friction chat management.
Ultimately, this would make Venice AI **feel more polished, professional, and user-centric**—while enhancing retention and long-term engagement.
