First of all, it’s amazing now that we have different kind of filter for the characters, I appreciate the improvement.

However, I have two grips about how the filter is shown.

Why Trending vs. Featured ? 

The first question I asked myself is… what does “Featured” even mean?

“Featured” is usually a word we use in sales, if you want to up-sell or put on display an important asset. 

In a natural way, “Featured” has no real definition. Plus, it also means that someone or something will have to be behind this to organise or define what should be there, which may become a daunting task. 

“Trending” is more natural. It could be the highest download count in a short span, and if two characters have the same download count, order them by last download descending.

• It promotes “gem” characters

• The other categories all have their “say” in this one. 

• It’s a term that speaks to everybody

• It’s much more easy to manage (usually)

Why “Most Recent” in second position?

It’s a user behaviour thing. You offer a list of “Featured” ones. The user will go on the next element to the list. However, in the other categories of “Top X,Y,Z”, there is quite a high chance that they will find the character to chat with before ever reaching the “Most Recent” category. 

The Risk? Especially with a “Featured” section, it risks stalling the development of new character as it may make the downloads drop (vs. before where it was Most Character by default, which I understand was problematic hence why this change has been made in the first place). 

Both changes in character section:  A perspective of an innovating community vs. the elitist barrier.  

This part is just personal opinion but those changes, both the wording and order will promote a the image of a platform that really puts emphasis on growth and discovery instead of putting the best on a pedestal on display, leaving the rest in the pedestal’s shadows.
