Hey Venitians and Venice lords,
I wanted to share some honest feedback after being a subscriber for 10 months. I've been thinking long and hard about whether to speak up, wondering if I'm just being needy, but after sitting with it, I think I need to get this off my chest.
First of all, I'm genuinely thrilled to be part of this community. Everyone is so respectful and understanding, and I love that we can share ideas with very little friction. I've had an amazing time chatting with you all, and I believe in the vision and the tech you're building. That's why I'm still paying every month.
Lately, though, I'm struggling with the subscription. It makes me uneasy because you've given me a lot, but something has changed for me on the receiving end.
I get that the Venice team is navigating a massive, fast-moving industry trying to marathon the pace of model releases, the pressure to stay on top and to expand the range of services you're trying to offer. I work as a programmer myself, so I can imagine the backlog growing and the tough business decisions being made. I understand all of that.
Still, I speak as the user who subscribed specifically for the characters section and the interface experience. I subscribed for the platform itself: unlimited text/image usage without being bound to a single model, posting and downloading from the character library, the privacy and the ease of access. I'd say 3 of the five months I was subscribed to were absolutely thrilling. The biggest things that hurt my enjoyment were when Venice Large was the only model and the context bug that dragged on for so long before being fixed.
Since then, these sections of the platform have gone stale. These days, I find myself returning to the web interface only to be frustrated by how slow and painfully limited it feels, with features that only seem to work half the time, with the lack of transparency of the engine behind, and by how little the existing sections have evolved to be more customizable. The character section in particular doesn't reflect how character creation has grown on other platforms. The summarizer is deeply embedded with no user control, so when it bugs, it really hurts the experience. The Featured section has completely hindered my interest to produce new characters since they don’t have the same visibility.
Since I am not doing image generations with the free models because they are subpar, I'm left paying a subscription for very little usage that I can't even use outside the web interface. At this point, I'd rather support Venice by simply buying $18 worth of credits every month than continue with a Pro subscription. At least then I'd be paying for something I can actually use anything inside AND outside the platform. The awkward part is that buying credits would strip my ability to post and create characters, feeling like a situation I’d end up cutting the bridge completely.
I appreciate all your hard work and I'd genuinely love to hear where development stands and whether there's a plan to accelerate bug fixing and improve existing sections over new features. That would really help me decide where I’m heading with this situation.
