Stop zeroing out and confiscating remaining credits simply because a subscription expired. If that is your rule, display it front and center in bold text right in the main subscription terms. Burying that clause where users can barely see it, treating it like a blind notice, and then brushing people off after the fact with 'our policy is to revoke credits immediately once the subscription ends' is an outright deception of your subscribers. It is completely underhanded. You should have put a clear warning in plain sight right on the plan upgrade page: 'WARNING: Any remaining credits will expire immediately upon subscription cancellation or expiration.' Pulling this move without clear, upfront notice and then hiding behind 'that's just our policy' is blatantly misleading. Don't you agree? If users had known, anyone would have made sure to burn through every single credit before the billing cycle ended to avoid this kind of loss. Starting today, add this warning explicitly to your upgrade notices. This is a thoroughly dishonest and deceptive policy clause.
