Temporary chats
A temporary chat option would be very useful for chat organization. For instance, if I have a dumb question like “how to pronounce gnu”, I don’t need that saved in my chat history. Yes, I can delete the chat myself, but a temporary chat option would save time/clicks in the UI.
Additionally, in my opinion, the best way to go about this would be to have the option to make chats temporary by default. Similarly to how Kagi’s Assitant chats expire after 24 hours, along with the ability to set the default behaviour to permanent if needed (permanent being how Venice works currently).
So how I envision this working in an ideal world, is that there is some global app setting that sets the default behaviour of chats, with the three options being: permanent, expire after 24 hours, expire after app close. Then, there would be an option to save specific chats to my chat history (probably through the ellipsis menu).

I went back to the history of less than 1% of my posts. 99+% are ephemeral and I don't care about the history. The default should be privacy.

Yeah, my chats build up and take forever to clean up, and I dont want most of them. I’d definitely like to leave it in a “Dont Save Chats” mode, with a button to save the one I’m on if it’s important.

I especially want this feature, because venice got super slow and clunky, until I deleted all chat history, and it instantly started to run a lot smoother. So evidentially not keeping the chat history in the first place would make the whole UI more smooth.

Cool feature, I was always wondering why a privacy focused ai service keeps all the chat history, even if only locally, that just feels weird to me. Thanks for considering this!

I got into the habit of manually deleting all chat history, because venice gets super slow when there are too many chats. Try this if you feel the UI is slow to respond, its a huge difference. This temporary chat feature would make a big difference in performance I think.
